Social Group - Authentic Allies

Teens & Pre-Teens

For teens who want connection, belonging, and a space where they can truly be themselves.

  • In this group, connection comes first. Many teens join because they’re looking for people who understand them and a place where they don’t have to mask or fit into rigid social expectations.

As we spend time together, teens naturally begin learning more about their neurodivergence in real and practical ways. Together we explore things like:

    • preferred communication styles

    • sensory and regulation strategies

    • understanding each other’s needs

    • being authentic and genuine with others

Rather than teaching social skills in a scripted way, we learn through shared experiences and real interactions.

  • Authentic Allies runs weekly during school terms with holidays focussing on going out and about in the community.

Sessions are teen-led and supported by our therapists, meaning the group members help shape what we do together.

Some weeks that might look like:

    • crafting around the kitchen table

    • cooking together

    • board games

    • obstacle courses or capture the flag

    • playing games on the Nintendo Switch

    • simply hanging out and chatting

The goal is to create a space that feels natural, relaxed, and low demand, similar to how teens socialise outside of therapy.

  • During school holidays, the group practices planning and organising outings together in the community.

This might include trips to places like cafés, parks, or local activities.

These outings give teens the chance to:

    • practise the sensory and regulation strategies we’ve discussed

    • navigate real-life situations together

    • build confidence in community environments

Most importantly, they get to experience connection and belonging in real-world settings.
